Johnny Do: The orphanage in which I stayed at last summer has been closed down by the indian government due to increased pressure from hindu millitants. The government seized all assets of Hopegivers Int./Emmanuel Ministries, and arrested two top ministry officials. The crime is persuading the orphans to become christians. It is not illegal to become christian or to convert others to christians, but permission in writing must first be granted from the government in order for it to be legal. All the doctors have been driven out, and the orphanages are without food, electricity, or water. We are awaiting a hearing from the government to determine whether or not bail will be allowed. Several churches have been burned down, and the over 200 orphanages are not able to care for the children. I have attached some letters for your convenience if you would like to help.
